Do you recognize these small things? They’re mustard seeds. Jesus says that if we have faith the size of just one, we can move mountains. Hard to believe, I know.
He uses these tiny seeds to illustrate how the kingdom of heaven grows: “It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.” (Matthew 13:32)
Isn’t that amazing?
Our omnipotent and almighty God, the One whose love for us is immeasurable beyond anything we can ask or imagine, is also the God of small things.
That’s good news for us because life is filled with small, seemingly insignificant moments. Especially now when life feels like it’s shrinking to fit inside the walls of our homes. I miss living a bigger life. The one I had out in the world before everything changed. But if God is in the details, then He’s here with us right now.
The God of big answers is the God of small things.
If you’ve been scanning the horizon like me, waiting for the next big thing – the answers, the healing, something to change – I hope you’ll bow your head with me and take a loving look at where your feet are planted. Right here, right now, in this moment. Because the God of big answers is also the God of small things. He’s in all the details of our days, and I believe He’s calling us to join Him right where we are.
Think small. Dream big. And trust that in this time of waiting, God is growing us for whatever comes next.
